Here’s my belated mother’s day post! My guys really took care of me this mother’s day. I got this gorgeous bouquet of flowers early in the week last week, and then on Sunday I was treated to breakfast in bed – homemade waffles with blackberry sauce, and fresh strawberries! Yum yum! It was delicious, and I barely remembered to get a picture!
I also got some fun gifts of bike gear: a patch kit, a tail light, and some tire liners – so as you might have guessed, we decided to go for a family bike ride.
It was a great adventure. The plan was to ride 10 or so miles to REI downtown (stopping for a picnic lunch on the way), spend our dividend on a new trailer hitch for the Burley that’s in the shop, then head up to Little Man for some mini-ice cream cones, and then ride home. – About 25 miles round trip.
But as they say about best laid plans – well… we got about a mile and a half from REI when my tire blew out. Not a sticker and slow leak, but the tube actually blew completely. So Rick rode ahead the rest of the way to REI and returned about a half hour later with a couple new tubes. Yay. Except that while he was gone, I discovered that the reason the tube blew was that my tire side wall was shredded – it had a big hole too. So I rode Rick’s bike (pulling 50+ pounds of kids in the bike trailer) back to REI again, and Rick walked my bike to the store where we used the dividend to buy a new tire. After we had my bike ready to go, we bagged the whole trailer hitch and ice cream idea, and headed home. So, well, it was an adventure.
But the day over all was quite nice and we had a good time together. And the picnic Rick packed was delicious.

Oy– at least you were together!
I think one of the best ideas Rick and you have had is celebrating Mother’s Day with your moms on the Saturday before Mother’s Day! I, for one, love having that special date with you and one of my grandsons on a day set aside just for me and knowing you, too, will be able to have a special day without all the running around. I had a lovely time with you and Emmett, having tea and then dashing out for some sushi! Loved our Tuesday night too!
