Yesterday, after, shall we call it a rather compelling, “diaper-free” incident, we (well, ok I) decided to convert Henry’s crib to a toddler bed. I figured, it’d be best for everyone involved if he could get up all by himself and go potty from now on.
Of course, now I’ve lost my most effective containment system. How will I shower? What about nap time? Did I just open a can of worms, here???
Last night wasn’t so bad. Just a little over an hour of him getting up and us putting him back to bed about a thousand times. We followed the technique we saw on that Super Nanny TV show once. You tell them when they go to bed they are not to get up, and then the first time they get up you remind them. Then every time after, you simply escort them (or carry them) back to bed without saying anything.
Henry eventually caught on, but boy was it hard to stay stony-faced when he’s grinning impishly at you or asking for extra hugs and kisses (a favorite stalling technique of his). 
But right now it’s nap time, and I can still hear him in there playing. Oh, what have I done?!?!?
LOL! Yeah Henry’s in a big boy bed! It will get better…sure he will play around but the newness will wear off soon enough.
WOO HOO! but he looks SO proud doesn’t he. i of course would cave in because i love me some “henry hugs” you know!
